Introduction
According to the Smart Freight Centre, 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions can be attributed to freight transport. Considering also logistic sites, the share of the logistics industry rises up to 11% of global emissions and the sector’s emissions are expected to double until 2050. At the same time, most businesses as well as private households depend on transport services in some way or another. This gives freight activities a key function to be tracked, managed, innovated and reduced in order to meet our climate and sustainability goals.
The methods for calculation of emissions from transport services can vary heavily per transport mode and companies often lack sufficient data for a reliable and comparable calculation of their transport emissions.
EcoTransIT World (ETW) is a flexible tool for complex calculations that supports companies in calculating and optimizing their emissions and energy consumption. The software is accredited by Smart Freight Centre to be in accordance with the GLEC Framework and also meets the requirements of ISO 14083, EN 16258, and the GHG protocol (Corporate Standard). ETW allows the calculation of complete transport chains across all modes of transport (truck, train, ocean-going vessels, inland water vessels, aircraft) including transshipments/warehousing worldwide based on a scientific and neutral methodology.
With this integration, we are bringing EcoTransIT World (ETW) tools and methodology for calculating purchased logistics emissions to the Cozero platform.
You can use this integration to get granular insights into logistics emissions and to take a comprehensive and consistent approach to your carbon footprint management.
How it works
Users of the Cozero platform have two methods to harness the power of this integration:
Emission import
= Export transport emissions data from ETW and directly import it into the Cozero platform.
This process ensures that your emissions data, including activity data and calculated emissions, are directly accounted for within Cozero’s platform. This approach is relevant if you have historical data in ETW that you want to include in your footprint reporting.
Direct calculation in the Cozero platform
= Log your logistics activity data directly in Cozero using our bulk import template. The platform automatically leverages ETW’s advanced calculations to return precise emissions accounting.
This process simplifies the entry process for ETW and Cozero users. It saves you time on activity reporting while offering detailed insights into purchased logistics emissions with enhanced granularity and accuracy. For both users and non-users of ETW, you benefit from streamlined access to granular calculations which build the baseline for the creation of ISO14083-compliant reports.
Benefits
Comprehensive emissions insight: Gain the most detailed view of your logistics emissions across all transport modes, from trucks and ships to airplanes, trains, and inland waterways, and account for it as part of your Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF).
Time efficiency: Simplify your emissions reporting process and workflows, saving valuable time for sustainability stakeholders with ISO 14083 and GLEC-compliant reporting.
Data-driven decisions: Make informed decisions using visualizations and data analysis tools to minimize your environmental footprint and easily report the total emission per transport mode or life cycle stage, for example.
Easy supplier optimization: Connect your transport emissions to your logistics supplier portfolio and identify the most relevant partners for reduction by comparing the emissions per supplier per transport mode, for example.
Accurate decarbonization plans: Leverage precise logistics emissions data to formulate and implement effective decarbonization strategies, using insights to forecast logistics emissions or plan reduction initiatives.
Getting started
As a Cozero user, you can leverage the ETW integration in simple steps:
Are you already an ETW user?
Choose your preferred method of emissions calculation:
Direct import of your emissions data CSV file from ETW or
Our bulk template for easy emission calculation via ETW servers
Both result in Log creation and analysis of results in the Cozero platform.
In case of the direct import of your ETW output file, please make sure to add the following columns to your csv file:
start_date and end_date (format: YYYY-MM-DD or DD.MM.YY)
Location (matching your locations in Cozero)
If supplier names are included in your ETW output file, name this column supplier and make sure all supplier names already exist in your Cozero account
Direct calculation in the Cozero platform:
Utilize our bulk template for easy emission calculation via ETW servers, for Log creation and analysis of results in the Cozero platform. The process is very similar to performing a bulk import for other Cozero categories:
Step 1:
Download the template from your Cozero account and fill in available activity data.
Step 2:
Log all your purchased transports in the file.
Columns with a dark blue background contain Cozero specific data, while those with a gray background are EcoTransIT-specific. The shipment ID, which is called SID in EcoTransIT, is used to identify your shipments. For this reason, the value entered in this field will automatically be used as a log description.
Step 3:
Upload the file to Cozero and submit it once the preview shows that all rows are correctly filled in.
Your data is then sent to EcoTransIT servers for the calculation of emissions. It is possible that errors occur during the calculation, for example when origin or destination points cannot be recognized. In this case you would receive an email with a CSV attachment indicating which rows have errors and what needs to be changed. Rows that did not experience errors, will already be uploaded to your Cozero account. To calculate emissions for affected rows, please correct the activity data in a new bulk import template and upload this second file to Cozero to complete your import.
When all data has been imported, you will receive a confirmation email from Cozero.

Q&A
What are the technical prerequisites for enabling this integration?
What are the technical prerequisites for enabling this integration?
There are no prerequisites; simply be a user of Cozero and have logistics data ready for analysis. Your Account Manager can help you define the proper method and explain the contractual details to enable the integration in your account.
How much logistics data do I need to get started?
How much logistics data do I need to get started?
To get started, you only need basic data such as the shipment weight, its origin and destination, and the transport mode. You can then complement this with additional data points such as fuel type, load factor, or emission classes to increase the calculation accuracy.
Should I use the EcoTransIT World integration or use Cozero built-in logistics emission calculations?
